Learning Circle
اللهم إني أسألك علماً نافعاً، ورزقاً طيباً، وعملاً متقبلاً
O God indeed I ask You for beneficial knowledge, and a wholesome provision, and actions which are accepted.’
Classes aimed at the teenager seeking engaging discussion and content relevant to their lives. Our learning circles are structured to accommodate students’ needs. Subject areas consist of but not limited to prophetic history (sirah), Qur’anic exegesis (tafsir), introduction to spirituality, inner dimensions of worship, creed (‘aqidah), jurisprudence (fiqh). The inquiring and critical mind most welcome. Classes may be individual or in a group.

As one of Sumaya’s past Tajweed, Arabic and Islamic Studies students during the 7th/8th grade, I can honestly say that at 21 years old I am still impacted by not only her teaching but her as a teacher. Sumaya’s teaching was never a projection of outdated teaching methods, rather a humble product of her curiosity and inquisitiveness as a student herself. She managed to create a safe learning space that cultivated freedom of expression, curiosity and mutual respect. Her methods of deconstructing the material created a deeply comprehensive and focused course from which I drew so much knowledge and inspiration. Sumaya is a teacher that is self- aware, mindful of her personal responsibilities as an educator, and flexible in her navigation of the study. I am deeply honored to have been taught by her. Due to her, my skill levels were exemplary in comparison to others.

The courses I took with Sister Sumaya were Islamic Studies, skills for community outreach, and Women in Islamic History. These classes have helped me grow as a Muslim and have enriched my spiritual journey abundantly. What she taught me in these classes has been so beneficial in enriching my iman and making me a stronger Muslim. I am so glad I took these courses with her and would highly recommend her as she is a wonderful instructor. You’ll really learn about our legacy as Muslims, form a deeper connection with Islam and the Quran, and truly feel that you are part of Prophet Muhammad’s Ummah.
